Business ethics appeared in 20th century and since then brings a lot of questions and doubts connected with correctness of the decisions or behaviour of the employers and emplyees. Term "business ethics" is closely related to, and complements, the socially responsible behavior, whose purpose is to help people to connect tasks, which they perform outside of work with their work, while they respect certain moral principles. Therefore, it's very important to know how to make a right ethical decision. Accounting ethics, which is the main topic of this final thesis, appeared only few years ago. It's based on a code of ethics for professional accountants, whose job is to help the accountants to evaluate whether there’s danger or threat in the situations they find themselves during their work and, if there is, to eliminate or avoid the threat in the most correct way. Since 2002 the whistling problem showed up in the accounting ethics. It means that employees are giving information about noted irregularities in the business organization they work in. While in the United States this phenomenon rewards, in Croatia is the “whistling“ considered as a negative thing and the employee doing it is considered a betrayer. The Enron case, the Xerox case and the WorldCom case are given as examples, but they are just two in a series of cases of violation of the accounting ethics. Business ethics should be nurtured and impose peace in the entire system with its rules, both in accounting, as well as in other areas of business.
